South Pacific Cruise Highlights:

Honolulu - The ghosts of Waikiki ride surfboards. Honolulu's signature beach was long a retreat for longboarding royals, but today, the gentle waves carry many a happy, uncoordinated visitor, learning to surf. Waikiki tells one story of the Hawaiian capital. The dormant volcano of Diamond Head tells another. Pearl Harbor another. The city is a tapestry of commerce, natural beauty, and war history. Pearl Harbor made it an important way station for trans-Pacific trade, an ideal spot for a U.S. naval base, and of course, the military target that ignited American entry into World War II. Cruise travelers can see one part of that history at the USS Arizona Memorial and another at the Punchbowl military cemetery.

Tadine - Mare, New Caledonia - Tender ashore to this hidden gem on Mare Island off New Caledonia and discover the pleasures of its pretty beaches and simple way of life. Your greeting? The sight of a palm-strewn jetty and local Maréans singing traditional songs. Yedjele beach, outside of town, is a picture-perfect vision of the South Pacific.

Dravuni Island, Fiji - Even among the hundreds of tiny islands that comprise the South Pacific nation of Fiji, Dravuni resembles a mere spec in the ocean. But what an idyllic place to come ashore to set foot on beaches so pristine you may think you were first to set foot there. Of all the world's tropical slices of heaven, this one welcomes snorkelers and beach huggers alike to its welcoming shores. Consider visiting the charming village to meet the locals, and learn the ancient craft of weaving indigenous pandanus leaves into mats and other essentials.

Noumea, New Caledonia - Credit France for bringing French perfection to New Caledonia, their gorgeous South Pacific territory and its capital, Noumea. Find it almost equidistant between Fiji and Australia, where fine pastry and papaya go hand-in-hand. Blessed with a massive coral reef and all the visual enticements of the verdant tropics, this Coral Sea capital covers a peninsula on the largest island - the cigar-shaped Grand Terre. Cruise visitors often snorkel at the popular beach, Baie des Citrons; stroll up to Ouen Toro Park for a view of the city; or stop at the Waterfront Market for a sumptuous pain au chocolat. C'est la vie!

Sydney - Even for many Australians, Sydney poses a curious challenge to define accurately. The entire world arrives daily to tour the harbor and its stellar modern architectural icons like the famed Sydney Opera House. Yet, easily as noticeable, 50,000 years of Aboriginal history which unfolds in real time, helping forge the multicultural future of the world's largest island nation that has a knack for eye-catching imagery and particularly monolithic rock formations. The strands of culture, nature, democracy, and art create the mosaic for Sydney's brilliant yet rugged transcendence. Of course, it makes for exceptional cuisine and an influx of world class chefs making their mark on our appetites.

Named for the Maas River in the Netherlands, ms Maasdam is the fifth ship in Holland America Line's 140-year history to bear the name. At 720-feet, Maasdam is designed to carry fewer guests while providing more space for maximum comfort. Many staterooms feature commanding ocean views, and each suite has a private verandah.

Featuring an interior motif that pays homage to the historical Dutch East and West India companies of the 17th through 19th centuries, the centerpiece of this elegant ship features Luciano Vistosi's "Totem," a monumental sculpture using nearly 2,000 glimmering pieces of glass, prominently displayed in a soaring three-story atrium. Other intriguing art featured on Maasdam are two abstract murals painted especially for the Rotterdam Dining Room and a collection of seven iron teapots and a charcoal brazier from Japan, which date from the end of Edo period.

Guests on Maasdam will be able to "show and tell" their vacation memories through the Digital Workshop powered by Windows. Free workshops led by Microsoft-trained "techsperts" will show even the most novice camera or computer user how to take better vacation photos, make movies, edit pictures and create scrapbooks using a variety of Microsoft Windows and Windows Live services. Guests will learn how to share all their digital memories through email, blogging and social networking — so friends and family can see where they've been cruising even before they return home.
